BVB in the German Cup

31st October 2018 was a night I will remember for a long time - my first ever visit to Dortmund to watch FC Union in the German Cup.

I got into the stadium and was amazed how many Union fans had made the 300 mile trip on a Wednesday night - and they were in good voice too ! I was impressed with the Dortmund stadium and fans too - the Yellow Wall is worth seeing

Union gave a good account of themselves - under Urs Fischer they are well organised and fight hard - but went a goal down in the 40th minute. What happened when the half time whistle sounded is something I will remember for years....the Union fans started singing "FC Union Unsere Liebe" (see video below)....and sang it over and over for the whole halftime break ....the hairs stood up on the back of my neck...luckily it was a song I had learned via Union in Englisch and could join in ! My Dortmund supporting friend who was in the Yellow Wall sent me a text saying "Wow ! Your fans are amazing!"

The Union players must have been inspired by the fans and equalised via Polter in the 63rd minute. Dortmund sccored again in 73 but Polter equalised in 88mins to take it to extra time & Union were looking capable of an upset.

However a red card followed by a Reus penalty put paid to the cup run but the fans were superb and Union gave a good account of themselves...a match I will always remember.

Union Berlin fans...amazing !
