Be careful what you wish for !
This season I really caught the Eisern Virus - I became a Member and went to 8 home games and two aways . As the season went on the prospect of Automatic Promotion loomed large and we talked of the Erste Bundesliga and the big games we would watch.
Typical Union , they made hard work of it and needed a promotion playoff against Stuttgart in order to get promotion & what a night that was !! The celebrations carried on for several days in my case but when the hangover wore off the elation was tempered by a growing realisation that it might not be good for me personally.
In the euphoria following promotion there were thousands of new Club Members - last I saw there were 28000 -for a stadium that holds only 22012 . The scramble for tickets next season will be crazy and for foreign fans ,who are prey to a tempremental IT system , it will be even harder.
Fair play to the club - they have not put up prices for their first ever season in the First Division. They also resisted the urge to increase the number of season tickets so that more members without a season ticket can get tickets for individual games. If only I had discovered Union sooner and got myself a Season Ticket. Now I understand the banner unfurled by some Union fans the previous season - "oh shit ! We are going up".
